Los Angeles Airport, commonly known by its code LAX, has been a general aviation field since 1928. It was originally known as Mines Field and became a commercial airport in 1946. The present terminal was built in 1961 with the domestic and international terminals being added in the 1980’s.

The Central Complex has nine passenger terminals. It offers many services for travelers including public telephones, restrooms, gift shops, restaurants, cocktail lounges, news stands, shops, and business centers. Travelers Aid Society booths are located on the arrivals level of each terminal to answer passengers’ questions and offer emergency assistance. For military troops and their families, LAX offers the Bob Hope Hollywood USO which includes a snack bar, lounge, television room, nap area, showers, and outdoor patio area.

Passengers who will be staying in the Los Angeles area can find forty-eight hotels near the Los Angeles Airport. For those passengers planning to stay nearby or who have specific destination in the Los Angeles area, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Bus Centre connects passengers to the public bus systems with shuttle bus services to bus stations. Door-to-door shuttle van services are also available for many nearby hotels. Passengers who are looking for a little more freedom or will be staying in the area longer may want car hire services. Los Angeles Airport offers forty rental car companies on the premises, for example carhire3000, Alamo, Avis and Hertz. Ten of these companies offer passenger pick-up services at the arrival terminal while others offer free shuttle bus services.
