British Airways has slowly started the transition of moving their flights into the brand new Terminal 5 building located at Heathrow Airport. Flights are starting to arrive from destinations in Nigeria, South Africa, and the United States.

BA was hoping to have already completed the transition of moving their long haul operation but massive delays and luggage problems forced them to push back the transition date.

Because of the huge delays a lot of Corporate Executives at BA have been dismissed and intense pressure from investors are ordering that Chief Executive Willie Walsh quit. Willie Walsh did not accept his annual bonus because of the problems.

BA announced that on opening day they had dealt with 394 flights and now only 15 flights are being handled daily as operations have been scaled back substantially. So far there have only been a few minor delays for flights to New York but was a result of US air traffic control operations and not a result of Terminal 5. The £4.3bn terminal first opened back in March but problems exploded with luggage delays and flight cancellations.

Other destinations that are transferring to Terminal 5 include Cape Town, Cairo, Phoenix, Bangalore, Nigeria, New York, and Abuja. Once the transition is complete and everything is smooth sailing Terminal 5 will easily be able to handle 500 flights a day.
