Flybe, a southwest airline, and the Torbay Council have made a joint initiative to put mini holiday planners in the back seat pockets on their planes that fly from Exeter. The planners that they are making available to tourists are on Brixham, Paignton, and Torquay, which are the 3 towns in the English Riviera. The information has the potentential to reach an audience of up to 70,000 tourists and other passengers that are flying to and from Exeter in just one month. Flybe says that the marketing capabilities of this initiative are ’sky high’, literally.
The Torbay Coucil’s tourism director, Aviva Pearson, says that the initiative, which is thought to be a first for the United Kingdom, is the perfect way to advertise the English Riviera and convince passengers to spend their time here as their main holiday base. She also says that the convenience of the distance between the Bay and airport is a great way for tourists to learn about everything that the English Riviera has to offer.
The literature and planners are also being handed out through the executive lounges of Flybe’s Belfast, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Manchester airports. This is targeted at the high-spending visitors that may want to visit the English Riviera during the other months of the year besides in the summer. Jim Eaton-Terry, Flybe’s spokesman, has stated that the mini planners were informative and of high quality. He also said that Flybe was delighted to give its support to such a part of the country that is so beautiful.
