There are 30 flights that are planned for transfer from Terminal 4 to Terminal 5 at British Airways’ Heathrow Airport. This will be the second move in a series that was started on June 5th, and this new one is scheduled to start on September 17th. This next phase in the series after that will relocate 12 more routes to Terminal 5, which is set to take place at the end of October. There was a joint statement from the British Airport Authority and the Airway that said the aim of the relocations is to avoid the paralysis that occurred at the first of the year.

The movement of these routes to the new Terminal 5 at the Heathrow Airport on June 5th, when 8 were relocated, is said to double the amount of long-haul flight for Terminal 5. There are now 424 flights handled in Terminal 5, which leaves 60 long haul departures and arrivals each day for British Airways in Terminal 4. Since March 27th, Terminal 5 has had 15 long haul departures and arrivals each day. Starting on September 17th, the terminal will handle 30 more departures and arrivals each day in addition to the other 15.

The transfer of the 30 routes was actually scheduled to happen in April, but it was delayed due to a logistical hitch where passengers could be spending nights in the terminals while they wait for their flights. So, British Airways took more time to fix the problems, such as the baggage operation where they needed to be more confident that they could maintain a higher level of service when they handle a bigger number of customers and their bags at the terminal. Also, not all of the flights are going to be moved. Some of them will move to Terminal 3 instead, but not until January of next year.
