Europcar has now become the first European car hire firm to receive a “Green Charter.”  This is basically an official certification form that serves for proof that the car hire firm has been making a great effort to reduce the negative impact of the car hire industry on the environment.  It also promotes a future business strategy that is sustainable.

In the history of Europcar, they have shown that they take issues with the environment seriously, even before the issues become firmly established in the minds and conservations of the public.  An example is that Europcar was the car hire firm that started using hybrids first in Europe, as well as cars that were electric.  This major European car hire firm received the Environment Charter mostly because of their strong social responsibility sense and their sustainable business strategy.

The chief executive officer of the company, Salvatore Catania, says that the company has served as the pioneer for the industry for a long time, especially in their sustainable embrace and development of green efforts.  He went further to say that the company’s efforts are well organized, applied with a level of transparency that is high, and systematic when coming to measuring how effective the programs are and determining what areas of performance the car hire firm can improve on.

The “Green Charter’s” importance is that it demands signed agreements to confirm Europcar’s commitment to many challenging goals, such as increasing the awareness among clients of environment issues, collecting recycled materials, and maintaining a green fleet that is certified.
