Flybe, the biggest regional airline in Europe, announced that they will be launching their G-KKEV registered airplane, known as the Kevin Keegan, a Bombardier Q400 that they named in honor of Newcastle United’s manager.  At the Newcastle International Airport, Kevin Keegan unveiled the aircraft during a special ceremony, which Mike Rutter, the chief commercial officer, attended with family members of Keegan and some other guests of high profile.  Keegan has been honored this for the contribution he has given to football, his iconic status, and the service he has given to Newcastle United.  Naming the aircraft after him also reflects the ongoing commitment of Flybe to develop their services even further at the Newcastle International Airport.

Keegan spoke at the event, saying:
He was delighted to be named after one of Flybe’s aircrafts.  Newcastle is a special place to him, and the city, along with its fans, have given him so much.  He is thrilled that the airline is also honoring the city and fans with the unique plane.  Since the northeast is a region mad about a football, it is a great feeling to know that the local people will have the chance to fly on an aircraft to London in dedication of Newcastle United.

Mike Rutter added:
Naming one of their aircrafts after a Newcastle legend was never a matter of if, but when.  They were thrilled to have Kevin their to do the honors in unveiling the aircraft officially.  This is only a small contribution from Flybe to more than honor the most well-known heroes in sports for Europe and Keegan.  They are also honoring Newcastle as a major part of their network.
