One of Europe’s biggest budget airlines, easyJet, has made the decision to suspend all of their operations on the Belfast and Berlin route. The carrier will not offer anymore direct flights between the Schoenefeld-Berlin and Belfast International Airport starting in October. During the suspended period of time, the passengers of the airline, however, can book airfares for other flights as they usually do.

Some analysts say that the main reason that the carrier is suspending this route is due to the high cost of oil. However, easyJet claims that their reasoning doesn’t have to do with fuel prices being so high, as one of their major concerns is that there is a low passenger rate for the route. A spokesperson for the airline told journalists that due to the demand being low, the carrier will not be able to guarantee that the route will be profitable. easyJet didn’t rule out the possibility of reopening the route again in the future. However, they are very certain that this route will not be operating any flights during the winter schedule.

More notably, the Belfast to Berlin route is not the only one that easyJet has made a decision to suspend. The airline has said that they plan to stop their flights for the Northern Ireland and Gdansk route as well. The Belfast International Airport cutbacks are definitely seeing a trend, as many other airlines are cutting some of their operations. Flybe, for example, has made an announcement that they will discontinue their operations for the Belfast and Paris route, as Aer Lingus has axed its Belfast and Budapest route.
