Emirates Airlines is planning to cut their magazines, entertainment guides, and newspapers on flights in order to save 1 ton of weight on every one of their Airbus A380 super jumbo flights. This move is aimed to help aid in the reduction of fuel emissions and at saving money on expenses. The printed materials of the airline include its radio and television guides, Portfolio business magazines that the business- and first-class passengers use, and Open Skies in-flight magazine. For compensation of the lacking magazines, the airline plans to give their passengers similar content to the magazines in their in-flight entertainment system, which includes information, features, and news.

Emirates Airlines has a standing order of 58 A380 super jumbos, making them the aircraft’s biggest customer. They will be receiving the first one of the planes next week, and they plan to start operating it a few weeks after that. The carrier expects that they will make a 2 kilogram reduction of paper weight in every seat to significantly decrease the load on each of the aircrafts. Earlier in the year, the airline officially became a partner of the International Cricket Council, which will last until 2015. Emirates will have widely known hospitality and branding through the partnership. They are also sponsoring the Arsenal Football Club, including the Emirates stadium that has 60,000 seats. The carrier, in March, consolidated their global media account of 75 million pounds in Publicis Groupe Media after a final stand against OMD, which is owned by Omnicom.
