This month, Hertz has reduced the charge on customers that do not refuel their hired car before they return it, and they are beginning to offer the drivers that purchase a full tank during their hired time a discount. While this is going on, the prices of refueling hired cars is beginning to get attention from agencies of the state.
Prior to this, customers who didn’t refuel their car hire before returning it were charge about 7.99 dollars a gallon, according to Paula Rivera, a Hertz Corp. spokesperson. Now the customers will be charged the same for fuel as market price in addition to a fee of 6.99 dollars. For any of the travelers who choose to make a refueling purchase at the time they book their hire, Hertz will charge them market price while giving them a discount of 15 cents for each gallon. The discount in Canada is 5 cents for a liter. This program is applied to some of the licensed and all of the corporate locations in St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, Canada, and the United States.
Rivera said that Hertz’s customers complained that the old options for fuel were not convenient, expensive, and confusing. Whether other car hire agencies are going to change their programs for refueling or not is still to be seen. Dave Kilduff, the Ground Transportation Managing Director for CWT Solutions Group of Carlson Wagonlit Travel, added that the other companies are waiting for the reaction, whether it is negative or positive and will move based on that. He also said that he didn’t know whether the new options would change behavior tremendously or not.
