The Italian Government is hoping to talk Air France KLM into picking back up their merger discussions with the revamped Alitalia, following their help in destroying the previous agreement between the two carriers earlier in the year. The revamped Alitalia has managed to continue doing business thanks to investments, but they will have to eventually attract someone such as Lufthansa or Air France KLM as a foreign partner so that they can continue to operate in the long-run.

Altero Matteoli, the Infrastructure Minister, said during a conference that pending Air France KLM wants to collaborate with Alitalia now, they will be happy, adding that the airline will welcome having an alliance between Lufthansa or some other foreign carrier. Intesa Sanpaolo, the adviser for Alitalia, was anticipated to meet with representatives of Air France KLM on Wednesday in order to outline the most current rescue plans for their troubled carrier, in what may be the beginning of a more formal approach.

Antonio Tajani, the European Union Transport Commissioner, has already given his vote of confidence to the Italian Government about their plans to save Alitalia, which was running the risk of being tedious for the European Union, pending the government continued to offer support to the airline. He said that the Commission doesn’t have another option than viewing Alitalia’s rescue via private investors to be a positive accomplishment, and it will also boost the competition throughout Europe. The plan is anticipated to call for Alitalia to be split into two sections, and Altero Matteoli confirmed that it will be followed with the bankruptcy of their troubled units.
