Delta Air Lines is going to offer wireless internet access onto their domestic services by the summer of next year.  Delta Air Lines is just one of many on a long list of carriers that are planning to offer broadband internet services on flights, one of the included airlines being Continental.  This is going to allow passengers who have PDAs, smartphones, and laptops with wireless capabilities the ability to use the internet while they are flying, which will allow them to get more work done while they travel.  The next battle may likely be on the pricing structure of the service.  Delta Air Lines announced that their service is going to cost $9.95 on flights that are 3 hours or less, and any flights that are longer will cost $12.95.  It is not clear as to if that includes the total time of the trip or only flight time.

Continental made an announcement in January that they will be initiating Wi-Fi services on flights that will also include instant messaging and e-mail services on the flights that are within the continental states of the US, starting early next year.  American Airlines will offer an internet service that is limited in the later part of this year; however, only fifteen of their aircrafts will have the service.  JetBlue launched one plane with the service in December of last year, and they offer their broadband internet with no additional fees for their passengers, although this one plane usually only flies transcontinental flights.
