British Airways has made the decision to award a contract of 1.5 million pounds to KLM UK Engineering, which is based in Norwich, to perform checks at the end of the lease of four of their planes. Four Boeing 737-500s that British Airways operates will be going through some stringent checks, which will be done in the center that KLM UK Engineering has at the Norwich International Airport. It is mandatory for maintenance checks to be done in order to show that the planes are in acceptable conditions when the airlines return them to whoever they belong to when the lease has ended.
On Wednesday night, KLM UK Engineering hailed the agreement as a sign that they were being recognized as a top plane maintenance facility in Europe. The company said in a statement that British Airways had given them the contract following a tender process, which included their facilities in Norwich being audited. The company also added that this contract is considered a landmark in the growth of KLM UK Engineering as a service center for Boeing 737s.
Onno Pietersma, the Managing Director of KLM UK Engineering Limited, said that the airline is a welcomed asset to the growing portfolio of the company’s customers and a landmark in their maintenance of the Boeing 737. This contract will increase their presence in the market, he continued, as well as give them opportunities to grow their capabilities and capacity. They have been investing into the capabilities of the Boeing 737 during the past year, both in personnel and equipment, he added, and it is nice to see that those investments are beginning to pay off and that the company is being recognized as a leading maintenance facility in the market.
