It only took 16 years for 200 million people to walk through the gates of one of the largest theme parks in Europe. Disneyland Paris, the European version of the American Theme Park in Florida, welcomed its 200 millionth visitor on August 12th of 2008. The French family who were lucky enough to walk through the gates at just the right moment were treated to free park admission and a dinner catered by the park.
Karl Holz, the chief executive of the park, said that, “We are very proud to reach this symbolic milestone of 200 million visitors, it is proof that the Disneyland Resort Paris unique experience is ever-growing as we continuously strive to offer new and exciting entertainment to our guests.” The theme park giant has seen its share of ups and downs over the years, and has always had its share of detractors. However, as the park closed in on its 200 million visitor mark, no one could claim that it wasn’t popular. Averaging over 10 million visitors per year is no small feat, especially over the last year, with trying economic times for many residents of the United States and Europe.
The park has remained competitive by constantly offering new attractions, and embracing change when necessary. Recently, the opening of Stitch Live!, which promises visitors a real-time interactive environment starring the much beloved animated character from the “Lilo and Stitch” movie, has brought in children to the park by the thousands. Another offering, for the more grown-up at heart, is the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, which promises park visitors a thrilling experience from start to finish.
