An aircraft operated by American Airlines had to make an emergency landing at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. The flight, which departed Seattle in route to New York, experience minor electrical trouble and was diverted to O’Hare. While none of the passengers were injured during the landing it wasn’t smooth by any accounts.
According to local sources the 757 carrying 185 passengers experienced trouble during the landing when one or more of the tires on the landing gear blew. The blowout of the tires caused the plane to over shoot the runway before coming to stop approximately half way down the runway with its tires in the grass. Following the landing passengers were escorted from the plane and bussed to the terminal where they were later placed on another flight that was scheduled to arrive in New York just after 8 pm local time.
While emergency crews were on scene to assist no injuries were reported and the flight itself sustained minimal damage. At this time officials have not yet determined the cause of the electrical problems that caused American Airlines flight 268 to be diverted to O’Hare shortly before 2PM local time.
