According to reports, the French low cost carrier, Air Austral, has now placed the first orders for an A380 configured plane that is designed to carry more than 800 passengers. These two economy only jets will fly from Paris to the French island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean with 840 passengers on board the double decker aircraft.

Air Austral went on to say that it hopes to start operating the flight starting 2014. The Air Austral founder and chairman, Gerard Etheve’s, when speaking at the Dubai Airshow, that they are convinced that planes with good priced tickets will help explode traffic figures. He went on to say that the A380 is perfect for high density routes. He said that they handle about 550 people at the airports at the moment. Handling another 200 is not going to be that difficult. Overall, the long term plans were to tap growth in China and India.

Although the A380′s are able to carry more than 800 passengers on one flight, most of them, on average, carry about 500. The extra space is taken up with premium cabins, which include, in some cases, first class suites. The plane has also been safety tested on the evacuation of more than 800 people and with a full crew of 20 on board. It has been approved to carry, at max, 873 people.

These planes could be the answer that some airlines are looking for. Many airlines are looking at ways to cut out a lot of routes but still be able to fly lots of passengers. This would allow some airlines to be able to cut out extra flights on some routes and combine people onto one flight.
