It has now been noted that parts of a ride at an Alton Towers theme park have been destroyed in a fire. Local firefighters were called to the theme park when flames were seen at the Cloud Cuckoo Land cable car station on the Ski ride.

When the call came in, six fire engines were sent to the Staffordshire attraction. It only took about four hours to get the fire under control. Alton Towers was quick to point out that the ride was closed at the time, and no one was injured due to the fire. Alton Towers also said that the ride would not reopen in the foreseeable future.

In a statement from Alton Towers is said that no employees or guests were present at the time of the fire and it was brought under control fairly quickly. It added that the theme park was open at the time, but some of the areas had to be fenced off while the fire service investigated the cause.

Right now the firefighters do not think that anyone started the fire. However, they say that they have to go back and look at footage of the procedures for closing down the station. A cable car base station at the attraction was hit by a fire in October of 2007.

When the last fire broke out at Alton Towers 50 firefighters were called, and it took the crews most of the night just to put it out. Alton Towers said that they would like to avoid these kinds of problems in the future. Everyone is still unsure what is causing the fires to start on these cable carts.
