Alton Towers, the well known UK theme park, is set to introduce airport style scanners for some of its extreme rides, as well as banning shoes with a heal of more than one inch. This move comes in time for school break.

The idea for this new, somewhat different approach comes due to many kids coming up with their own tricks on how to get onto roller coaster rides that have certain height restrictions. Alton Towers said that this can be very dangerous, because the rollercoaster rides have height restrictions for a reason. Although it is unlikely that someone would just go flying out of a ride, it is very possible that they would not fit right into a seat and cause damage to themselves while going through some of the more extreme rides. Some of the Alton Tower rides have height restrictions of 1.2m and 1.4m.

Many of the park bosses have reported that they have seen a very increasing number of young girls walking around in high heels at the park so that they can get onto rides. Other kids have been caught wearing multiple pairs of socks just to give them that little bit of extra height.

Others have been found filling or taping objects to the bottom of their shoes in order to meet the requirement. One teen even attached a pair of flip flops to the bottom of his shoes with masking tape. Some reports have come in that one young girl even swapped shoes with her mother in order to get on a height restricted ride. Some say that Alton Towers is doing the right thing, because this proves that some parents are not going to do their job by not allowing their kids to try to sneak onto these rides. Thus, it is up to Alton Towers to think about the safety of its guest.
