According to Alton Towers, more than 10 new rides are in the works for the park over the next decade. On top of this, the park will also be creating almost 700 new jobs as well. Alton Towers says that its bosses are focusing on encouraging people to want to stay longer at the park, either by way of hotels on the resort itself or at nearby hotels.

Ian Crabbe, who is the Merlin Entertainment divisional manager, said that the main aim is just to increase the number of multi-night stays at the resort. This means adding more attractions and more things for guest and families to do. When there is more to do, this encourages guests to want to spend more time there.

He went on to say that they do believe that the economy is suffering, and people are going to want to enjoy short breaks in the country. In the longer term they do hope to see people coming to the park and wanting to stay for longer time spans.

Many of the specific plans for the park have not been revealed yet. However, a new roller coaster, called the Secret Weapon Six, is already being built on the site of the Corkscrew, which was torn down earlier in the year. These plans are likely to include a third hotel as well.

Alton Towers says that it believes that this plan will take about 10 years and will add about £12 million annually to the local economy. Also, between 2010 and 2014, Merlin really wants to improve the parking and access to the park. They also hope to install four new rides and have more overnight accommodations.
