The toll for driving on the Irish M50 motorway is being applied to rental bookings by some operators, who argue that the increase in fees for hire car customers has been brought about by losses generated from unpaid charges. In some instances, the standard £3 pound each way charge is being added to the overall bill along with an additional fee of up to 64 percent.
The rate hike revelation came after a Europcar customer, who is based in the UK, hired a vehicle for his trip home. He was charged with a extra fee of €1.93 each for each leg [...]

Since the announcement of Japan’s flag carrier’s bankruptcy, many cabin crew, being subjected to mass layoffs, are tempted to have their uniforms on sale to gain money. Japan Airlines expects that many of its uniforms are now being sold in the black market.
Costume designer Yu Teramoto said that it is nearly impossible to purchase an authentic JAL [...]

Formula 1 World Champ and celebrity sportsman Jenson Button has been declared the largest polluting celebrity motorist.
Theoretically the planet’s top driver does little to promoted eco-friendly motoring given that the F1 industry is a multi-billion dollar gasoline waster, but Button has made headlines after City Car Club declared that the champ has a fleet of vehicles for getting around which average 383.1g/km of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This number is roughly triple that of a standard hatchback car.
The calculations do not take into account the stupendous amounts of fuel used by his day job, where the practice of running several F1 [...]

Car rental customers are facing up to the prospect of increased charges in the months ahead thanks to the ongoing dramas that have beset the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota.
The short term effect of the massive recall of thousands of Toyota vehicles, which left many car hire operators frantically withdrawing suspected faulty models from their fleets, has started to impact on the wallet of both rental customers and companies as tightening supplies have coupled with ongoing tightening purse strings to push prices up.
A survey on car hire bookings across four of the main airport rental operations in the US by Expedia [...]

North America has been usurped from its position atop the world’s leading air travel market with the Asia-Pacific region now reaching the watermark point where it has overtaken its main rival on the global stage.
According to new data released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) this week, the Asia-Pacific region hosted 647 million air passengers last year. The details were released at an industry conference ahead of the Singapore Air Show which featured all of the major international operators. This represents a significant increase on the 638 million that flew across North America as that region continues to suffer [...]

It now seems that British insurance companies are finally starting to give cover to tourists who are wishing to visit Kashmir. Earlier, the insurance companies in the UK were not giving any cover to British tourists to this area due to the advisory issues by the country. J&K tourism minister, Nawang Rigzin Jora, said that this shows some kind of softening on the British stand.
Many western countries have issued travel advisories to their citizens not to visit Kashmir after the abduction of six foreign tourists by Al Faran, a shadow outfit of Harkat ul Mujahideen near Pahalgam in July of [...]

It now seems, according to the Unite union, that only 216 volunteers have offered to replace British Airways’ cabin crew in the event of industrial action. The trade union went on to claim that the program to retrain employees to replace the stewards during industrial action would replace less than 2 percent of the carrier’s cabin crew.
The union went on to say that these plans by the airline are nothing more than a “scab labor” drive. The strike ballot, which opened just earlier this week, is set to close as of February 22nd. Thus, the earliest possible strike could [...]

A corner is slowly being turned by hire car companies, even without the massive boost expected from the World Cup this year.
Reassuringly for rental operators who suffered a miserable 2009 the initial reports of the December holiday period should at least bring some sunshine to a bleak UK winter, as a return to something approaching normally was seen as holidaymakers created a noticeable spike in demand for hire vehicles.
CEO Keith Rankin of the Avis Rent A Car owners Barloworld Automotive said that coastal cities in particular experienced a demand spike last month, with the Avis fleet even running out of [...]

The threat of another strike at British Airways could happened at any time. However, new reports now suggest that the union strike is not likely to happen during Easter. Unite, the union that is representing the airline’s cabin crew, said that no action would occur over Easter. This announcement comes just after the union chose to hold a new strike ballot.
A spokesman for the union, Len McCluskey, said that he wanted families to be able to plan their travel arrangements in confidence. British Airways attacked the union statement saying that it offered little comfort to travelers, as a strike [...]
