Rival airlines of the strike-hit UK flag carrier British Airways (BA) have been busy taking advantage of the situation by advertising their services as safe and strike-free.
Some of the recent advertisements publicised are from Bmi, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic (VA) - BA’s most bitter rival. VA recently posted on its website the slogan ‘Avoid the strikes this spring and fly Virgin Atlantic’. Also keeping up with the trend, Bmi advertised on a newspaper the quote ‘Flight cancelled? Need a lift?’. Meanwhile, Emirates said in one of its marketing shows, ‘You keep us flying’.
Nigel Turner from Carlson Wagonlit, a travel management firm, said that business travellers are now having second thoughts about flying with BA due to its unstable operations. Currently, the airline company has been working tirelessly to counter the impact of the cabin crew strike and to protect its main market, the business travellers. BA has been busy as well, keeping its executive club members happy by letting them keep their earned loyalty points, even if they had chosen to rebook or cancel flights.
In related news, the second BA strike has entered its third day today. Despite of the event, BA said that it managed to run full service out of Gatwick Airport over the weekend. Meanwhile for Heathrow Airport, the airline company said that 70 per cent of its long-haul flights run okay, with 75 per cent of BA’s passengers arriving on schedule to their destination.
