Apparently a number of UK airports had to shutdown and a lot of rail services delayed recently due to a big freeze that continues to hold the UK at its mercy. Places like Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester had to close down their airports earlier in the week due to heavy snowfall and ice on the runways. Although most airports are now back open, the damage has already been done to some flight schedules.

For example, easyJet was just one of the many airlines that was forced to cancel dozens of flights in both the UK and European airports. Snow fell overnight in Scotland, where temperature actually fell to -15°C in places. Snowfall is said to get up to 12 inches in southern England. Commuters will face major delays with accidents and jams on several motorways. People are told to not go out on the roads unless they have to.

Some train operators, like Cross Country and First TransPennine, were all reporting disruptions. The temperature is expected to hover around freezing across much of the UK. Hundreds of schools in northern England and the south west also closed on Tuesday after heavy snowfall. More than 250 schools have closed in West Yorkshire and 102 in Cornwall.

Driving conditions in Northern Ireland and Wales worsened with rain, sleet and snow falling on already icy roads. It could be some time before these roadways are clear again. This is because the temperatures never get warm enough for the roads to defrost. Thus, bad travel conditions are likely to continue until warmer weather arrives.
