bmi announced that they are launching the second stage of their market leading campaign with the removal of all fuel surcharges for short-haul services, which started on Wednesday, December 17th. This means that travelers will get the chance to enjoy cheaper fares by choosing bmi to fly from regional airports straight to destinations throughout the United Kingdom and Europe.

The airline’s first campaign stage was initiated early last month by removing the fuel surcharges on their United Kingdom and European network flights to and from the Heathrow Airport. This initiative gave recognition to the current economic environment,as well as the need for providing more air fare that is transparent and affordable for leisure and business travelers alike.

Peter Kenworthy, the Commercial Director for bmi, said that they have always been a leader in the United Kingdom and European markets. bmi is committed to offering the best value on flights, which is backed with their renowned service, he continued. Kenworthy also said that their extensive network in the region links 7 airports in the United Kingdom with 14 destinations across the United Kingdom and Europe. The end of fuel surcharges for these flights is designed to encourage more leisure and business travel, he added.

Passengers who flew in economy class were having to pay a fuel surcharge of £16, with business class paying £20 on short-haul flights. Now, it has been estimated that families of 4 can save at least £128 for an economy return trip in Europe. A spokesman said that the times are tough for consumers right now, and they hope that bmi’s decision will encourage them to keep traveling.
