In a few weeks, Boeing will be issuing a new test flight schedule and ultimately deliver its long awaited Boeing 787 Dreamliner. A Boeing engineer said that a firm schedule will finally be put into place and adhered to.

In June, Boeing announced yet another delay of the first flight of the plane. The Dreamliner is a revolutionary carbon-composite plane and there have been setbacks that were hard to predict. Since the most recent delays Boeing has been tentative to name new target dates.

Airlines who have already laid down significant deposits are eager to be informed of the new schedule. There are already orders for more than 850 of the new planes pending. “I think we’re just weeks away from doing that,” said Chris Musoke, chief engineer for the 787, speaking at a breakfast meeting of the Organisation of Black Airline Pilots in Atlanta.

The aircraft is currently two years behind schedule. It was supposed to fly in the second quarter of 2009, but Boeing needed to address structural problems. Boeing and Airbus have been struggling due to lack of funds within airlines during the global recession.
