Just when people thought that British Airways was going to be able to work it out with the Unite union, announcements came back that show the talks have now broke down once again. Thus, British Airways’ cabin crew will vote again on the possibility of taking strike action against the company.

British Airways said that they are saddened by this, but are not at all surprised by it. The company went on to add that it would still continue negotiation talks with the union. However, Unite said it will call for a fresh ballot. This could lead to a strike as early as March if cabin crew vote in favor of industrial action.

The assistant general secretary of Unite, Len McCluskey, said that intense discussions with the company have failed again to secure an agreement. This had led to the decision for a second ballot. He said that they, therefore, have to honor their commitment to their members to give them a chance to voice themselves. This was a chance that was denied by the courts just before Christmas.

British Airways said that the decision to call a ballot called into question the union’s good faith. The union could choose to delay the strike if they wanted, until Easter holiday, to increase the disruption that the strike would cause. However, it is not at all certain if the cabin crew members would vote in favor of a strike for a second time, and this goes double if it is over Easter. This is because the courts stopped the last one that was planned over a holiday. It is unlikely that the next strike would be planned for any big holiday season.
