The threat of another strike at British Airways could happened at any time. However, new reports now suggest that the union strike is not likely to happen during Easter. Unite, the union that is representing the airline’s cabin crew, said that no action would occur over Easter. This announcement comes just after the union chose to hold a new strike ballot.

A spokesman for the union, Len McCluskey, said that he wanted families to be able to plan their travel arrangements in confidence. British Airways attacked the union statement saying that it offered little comfort to travelers, as a strike could still start on March 1st.

Experts say that an Easter strike was seen as the union’s biggest weapon in the bid to force British Airways to back down over cost cuts and changes in work practices. Other experts say that the union is merely trying to do damage control now, as British Airways has been successful so far in making the union look like the bad guys to the public.

In fact, British Airways was able to save passengers from having their Christmas plans destroyed by challenging the union’s ballot in court. The airline went on to win this court room battle by showing that the union balloted members that no longer worked for British Airways. Thus, in the end British Airways was able to win a victory, not only for themselves, but for the passengers as well.

The new strike ballot, among cabin crew members that actually work for British Airways, will open on January 25th and conclude on February 22nd. In a statement, British Airways accused Unite of making proposals that would result in a large increase in costs and sent a letter to its staff asking for volunteers that would train to take the place of the cabin crew in case of a strike.
