It seems that British Airways is not just planning on closing down on the days that the union plans on going on strike. In fact, British Airways has been asking its office-based staff to volunteer as cabin crew members in case of a strike by union members.

British Airways went on to send out this message to its employees after talks with the union stalled out yet again. The airline said that although it was sad that the talks fell through, it was not at all shocking. They also noted that the fact that the union is already thinking and planning a strike action called into question their good faith.

A spokesperson for British Airways said that they are asking for volunteers to train. They pointed out that they are looking at a number of options. One such option could be to temporarily wet lease aircrafts. This would mean leasing a third party aircraft with its own crew.

The volunteers would, of course, work along existing cabin crew who are prepared to cross the picket lines. The spokesperson said that they will provide assistance from those cabin crew who wish to work normally.

British Airways added that it would explore all options to enable them to operate the best flying program possible under these circumstances. The company said that their priority is to keep as much of their operations running as efficiently as possible for the sake of their customers’ interests. The airline said that they see no reason why the customers should have to suffer because an agreement has not been reached yet. Thus, they want to keep as many flights going as they can.
