The fears of a massive global car shortage in the wake of Toyota’s massive recall have been somewhat placated by several of the major hire car operators announcing that they are up to the task of managing fleets to meet the need.

Tuesday saw leading operator Enterprise Holdings join other notable big names in declaring they can satisfy customer requirements in the aftermath of the recall and sales halt from the Japanese manufacturer.

Fears grew widely earlier this week as rental companies rushed to remove the defective Toyota models from their showrooms over massive safety concerns with the accelerator pedals and floor mats which have been linked to several deaths. Enterprise, the privately held giant, is one of the dominant car hire firms and is the market leader in the US supported by its brands National Car Rentals, Alamo Rent-A-Car and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The group has argued that its scale and size has meant it is in a unique position of being able to manage the withdrawal and that it was not expecting any supply concerns.

The group also has one of the lowest Toyota to fleet rations at just 4 percent, leaving it under minimal effect. Most global firms have stated that they will manage their fleets to cope but many are frantically juggling the numbers ahead of several major holidays in the US.
