Coupon programs are no longer the exclusive domain of supermarkets. In the modern market they can be used for obtaining discounts on everything from car hire, plane tickets, hotels, travel packages and much more.
Sites such as discountvouchers.co.uk and RetailMeNot.com are two of the better known coupon specialists, with both featuring an excellent range of travel-related discounts. For example, a recent check revealed that savings of up to 50 per cent could be had with Enterprise Rent A Car and Orbitz travel packages, while US rail travellers can easily find up to 20 per cent off Amtrak tickets.
Coupon specialist Coupon Sherpa has even compiled a list of tips for frugal coupon users which contains handy advice for travel to and from selected destinations in addition to savings on a range of attractions once you get there.
The group recommends searching thoroughly for coupons related to your trip before leaving home, with amusement parks, museums and national parks all popular savers. If you cannot find coupons for a specific attraction, then contact them directly to see what deals they can offer.
Entertainment book coupons can also provide a range of savings for car, hotel and restaurant reservations but ensure these dates will fall within validity. Valpak.com and Entertainment.com are both renowned for their excellent offerings. Most company websites also have a range of “specials” or “deals” that feature on their websites.
Thrifty car hire and Hyatt hotels are both currently advertising great deals for customers. A word of warning though – make sure you check the small print on any coupon deal. Many are non-refundable or allow no changes.
