Dayton City is now preparing to clear up the fixtures of the recently closed Dayton Airport Hotel prior to its demolition. The hotel, now on its 40th year, will be transformed into a parking space.

Some of the stuffs to be liquidated are the furniture and fixtures bought before by the city to refurbish the hotel. However, they were never been used as the renovation project was deserted prior to its completion. Included on the sale will be some of the kitchen’s appliances and several furnishings of the remodelled rooms.

Iftikhar Ahmad, Dayton’s director of aviation, informed that the local government had acknowledged eight bids in total from companies who want to collect and re-sell the hotel’s stuffs. He added that before the end of this month, he is hoping to recommend one of the bidding companies to the Dayton City Commission.

Dayton City will collect from the winning liquidator a 20 per cent upfront payment, with an assurance letter of credit for the remaining 80 per cent to be paid at the end of the project. The initial payment will help fund the demolition process of the hotel. A demolition team is soon to be appointed, Ahmad added.

Meanwhile, InterContinental Hotels Group, proprietor of Holiday Inn hotels, has plans to erect a privately owned Holiday Inn and Suites near Dayton Airport next year. The construction is scheduled to start this summer and to be completed by fall 2011. Under the land-lease terms, the group will be making annual payments amounting to $48,800 to Dayton City.
