Reports now show that a Eurostar train has just recently broken down inside the Channel Tunnel after suffering some bad traction problems due to the heavy snowfall that has been hitting the UK. A spokesman for Eurotunnel said a rescue engine has towed the train out of the tunnel.
The train had restarted its journey at 10:35am and arrived in Ashford, Kent shortly after. The train did not encounter any other problems after getting out of the tunnel. Another train, the train from Paris to London, has also gotten stuck for a similar time period outside the tunnel in France.
As of right now, it is not fully understood yet why the train broke down. Further details are expected to be released later on. A number of trains have since been canceled because of freezing temperatures. The company was forced to offer full refunds or exchanges to all passengers who were due to travel yesterday and wished to change their tickets.
Another spokesman said that passengers should check in as normal, but be warned that services could be subject to cancellation or delays. This is due to the weather, which is something that the company hasn’t any control over.
This latest breakdown comes just weeks after hundreds of Eurostar passengers were stranded in the tunnel for hours when five trains were unable to move because of electronic malfunctions caused by the snow. As of right now, the snow in the UK is causing a lot of travel problems. These problems are not only for trains, but for cars, planes and subways as well.
