The big high speed rail operator, Eurostar, has now said that it supports the large reduction in VAT paid on meals all over France. The amount of tax that has to be paid on meals at cafes and restaurants was just recently reduced from 19.6 percent all the way down to 5.5 percent. This was done to help match the level of VAT on food sold in restaurants to match that of food stored in restaurants.
Eurostar said the fall in the rate of taxation offsets the substantial increase in the value of the Euro against the pound that happened just last year. The director of communications for Eurostar, Simon Montague, said that this is great news for anyone that wants to travel or take a short holiday in France.
For many people, this big reduction in VAT on meals can help some families get even more out of their break. On top of this, Eurostar, which provides trains to Paris, Brussels, Calais and Lille, announced that it will put its direct ski services to the French Alps on sale as well this winter.
Although there are many places that will benefit from the lage reduction in VAT, there have been very few companies like Eurostar that will come out and support it so freely. However, after many companies see the support that Eurostar is giving the reduction in VAT, other companies are sure to follow suit soon enough. After all, this is a big deal for many companies that deal with breaks and holidays to France from all over.
