Patrik Oqvist, a top marketing guru for Expedia, has left the company in order to become the Managing Director for website Viator, a growing destination services agency. Oqvist use to be the Marketing Director of Hotels.com and has been credited with founding the significant presence that the company has in the United Kingdom and other territories all around Europe. He was also the head of the Hotel.com brand relaunch throughout Europe.
Partrik Oqvist will be the new leader of an aggressive expansion for the Viator website in Europe after their quick growth during the last 2 years. The marketplace of Viator, which offers attraction tickets, in-resort tours, and more, has significantly increased while their customers have chosen to package their trips themselves and bolt on products before they even leave the house. Isango and DoSomethingDifferent, two rivals of Viator, have seen a major uptake in the use of their customers during the same period of time as well. High-profile white label agreements between Viator and easyJet, as well as between Isango and Ryanair, have pressured all of these companies into the mainstream even further.
Rod Cuthbert, the Chairman of Viator, told Travolution that he will be joining the global management team, where he partake in an obvious position for planning the expansion of the firm on an international level. Viator has a programme for growing ambitiously in Europe, and Patrik Oqvist fits right into their plan since, Cuthbert continued, since he has previous experience in executing something very similar, what Viator wants to do, with other companies.
