The already troubled British travel industry, still mired in ongoing airline disputes, has been dealt another body blow after the RMT union advised that national rail network staff had spoken out in support of a proposed walk-out. This means the threat of a rail strike over the Easter period is now a very real possibility.
Members voted by a favourable 77 percent to take action against network rail whose changes made to working conditions and practices has resulted in around 1,500 job losses.
The RMT union claimed that no call to strike would be made before next Friday’s group meeting. Any decision [...]

A young Singaporean man was yesterday sentenced by a local district court to serve 42 months behind bars following investigations into an alleged car hire scam.
22-year-old Allen Tan Wei Loon pleaded guilty to eight charges, mainly involving cheating and fraud, and was also banned from driving for the next four years after it was discovered that he had been driving without any insurance cover or a driver’s license. The court heard how Loon cheated around S$134,000, the majority of which has already been repaid.
The scandal followed Loon’s response to an advertisement placed online by Ms Lim Lay Lan offering her [...]

More work-related strikes are threatening to interrupt the travel plans of million of air and rail travellers over the following months, as disagreements between worker unions and two operators British Airways (BA) and Network Rail escalates.
A strike of BA cabin crew next week may be possible if talks between the Unite trade union and the airline company fail. The airline had already asked for an extension to consider the union’s pay cut offer of 2.6 per cent. As result, unite has decided not to strike during the Easter, but the group warns that a walkout could happen next week if [...]

Car manufacturer Toyota has received yet another disastrous body blow to its international representation after a recent model Prius was halted by the US highway patrol after it was found to be accelerating out of control. The issue is a continuation of the massive problems with braking and accelerating that have plagued the brand image of the Japanese car maker.
The drama occurred on the Interstate 8 freeway near San Diego, where Californian police officers were contacted by the 61-year-old driver, James Sikes, who used his mobile to ring the Highway Patrol as his 2008 Prius accelerated out of control. The [...]

The toll for driving on the Irish M50 motorway is being applied to rental bookings by some operators, who argue that the increase in fees for hire car customers has been brought about by losses generated from unpaid charges. In some instances, the standard £3 pound each way charge is being added to the overall bill along with an additional fee of up to 64 percent.
The rate hike revelation came after a Europcar customer, who is based in the UK, hired a vehicle for his trip home. He was charged with a extra fee of €1.93 each for each leg [...]
