Yesterday in Shreveport, the last Hummer H3 rolled off the Louisiana production line as part of an exclusive order for Avis Car Rental Company.

General Motors is cutting down the brand after a drawn out and eventually failed attempt to sell off the classic maker of sport-utility motor vehicles to a Chinese company. A month ago, General Motors hosted a sale of remaining Hummer vehicles and offered discounts of up to $6,000 for certain models.

The company’s campaign ‘Last Chance to Buy a HUMMER’ featured deals including $4,000 to $6,000 deducted off numerous H2 and H3 models, along with 72 months of zero-per cent funding. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration interrupted Hummer’s final days earlier this month with a recall.

NHTSA said a reason behind the recall was that the clips that held the hood louver of the Hummer H3 could break over time. According to the NHTSA, the hood louvers are capable of detaching from the vehicle. NHTSA added that the recall will entail the inspection of over 162,000 H3 models.

Up to 200 of the 900 General Motors employees currently in Shreveport are expected to lose their jobs in July.
