Next month will see Qantas passengers begin travelling to Europe on codeshare flights operated by Finnair.
Qantas passengers can connect to Europe via Singapore beginning on the 30th of May, when Finnair will provide nonstop codeshare service to Helsinki and connections to points around eastern and northern Europe. The two carriers say that the route will allow passengers to bypass the intense congestion at Heathrow Airport in London.
The news comes as Finnair seeks to take advantage of codeshare routes fed by a number of partner carriers, including fellow Oneworld member American Airlines, which recently commenced nonstop service to Finnair’s Helsinki base from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
Finnair’s flights to Helsinki from Singapore will depart at 11:30pm, allowing for convenient connections from Qantas’ afternoon services via its Airbus A380s or Boeing 747s. The dual-carrier route is similar to Finnair’s service from Bangkok, which in February became a codeshare route to Europe for Qantas passengers.
The Finnish carrier will also begin operating five additional weekly flights from Hong Kong to its Helsinki hub late next month; The addition brings Finnair’s total number of weekly flights to the Asian region to 74.
Mika Perho, Finnair’s senior VP of Sales and Marketing said that the airline’s strategy in Asia was going well and that the new Singapore additions reflect continue growth in the region.
