Two leading airlines, Flybe and Air Southwest, have renewed their commitment to the Newquay Airport shortly after one of the routes had to be grounded because of the increase in the cost of fuel.  Both of the airlines, Air Southwest being the biggest operator in the airport, renewed their support to the airport this week.  This happened just shortly after Flybe made the announcement that they were going to cut the Newquay to Glasgow route, which had just launched in April.

A Flybe spokesman said that the route was introduced as a service for developmental minimum frequencies for the summer of 2008, and now with the impact that rising fuel costs have had on the company, they have no other option except to suspend the Newquay to Glasgow route since it is the smallest of the airlines summer routes.  The service will be suspended starting on August 2nd and will be operational again when the price of fuel returns to somewhat normal.  Flybe is still committed to increasing their services from the Newquay International Airport, and they hope that they will be able to add more services in the future.

As Newquay increases their global destinations and keeps expanding, Air Southwest has also confirmed their support, despite the rising cost of fuel.  The Air Southwest Deputy Chief Executive, Mike Coombes, said that as they are the biggest operator at the Newquay Cornwall Airport, and they will remain dedicated to providing their passengers with excellent value for their money on all-inclusive airfares.  Their fares consist of a £3 fuel supplement per flight, and there are not any extras.  Air Southwest’s services have been popular for the Newquay route addition in their network.
