It now appears that full body scanners will be making their way to Heathrow Airport by the end of this current month. The government will also be introducing things like more frequent searches, behavioral analysis and even more sniffer dogs. The Home Secretary Alan Johnson also confirmed that they are considering the introduction of passenger profiling.

All of these new security measures are, of course, a direct result of the failed Christmas Bay bomb plot. The extra security measure will inevitably lead to yet more delays at the UK’s busiest and most congested airport. It is still not clear if other airports will get these enhanced security methods introduced in the hear future.

When addressing the House of Commons, Alan Johnson said that no one measure will be enough to defeat determined terrorists. There is also no single technology that will guarantee safety. Everything has to work together in order to protect people, not only in the UK, but around the world.

A spokesperson for British Airways said that they have not issued any new instructions so far. It is something that they will need to look into. There are three types of body scanners available, which vary in strength and their ability to detect artificial substances. It is not clear just which scanners are going to be put into Heathrow airport just yet.

The move was sparked by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who was a former student at the University College in London. He allegedly attempted to ignite explosives hidden in his underpants on a flight from Amsterdam into Detroit.
