The world’s largest hire car company has announced new photographic inspections to confirm the before and after condition of its vehicles.
Hertz Global Holdings advised that it has been testing multiple picture technology in the US which would reveal every ding and scratch of its fleet, before and after they are hired, thereby eliminating once and for all the scrappy arguments so often seen upon return.
The initiative has been designed to both cut losses and improve customer relations. It comes at a time where the car hire industry begins to show signs of a recovery after being badly hit by the recession.
Already in use by some insurers in the US, Hertz hopes the technology will reduce its $170 million annual damage payments.
Currently the inspection process involves walking around a vehicle and noting imperfections on a form with a rental car employee. The new system would see a series of high resolution photos taken at pickup and delivery. The system is just one of the groups commitment to technological advances as it looks to appeal to younger, tech-savvy customers, whilst expanding its overall market base. In recent months the group has bought Eileo, the French company who already features in the rental car-sharing scheme in London, New York and Paris.
