The issue of finding a rental car at this Winter Olympics in Vancouver has become more serious following the decision by Hertz staff to man the picket lines on Tuesday this week.
According to the union representatives of the 51-strong group from Hertz Rental Cars the move to strike could result in significant disruptions in and around downtown locations in addition to the critical travel hub at Vancouver International Airport as the Canadian city gets set to host the winter spectacular.
Spokesman for Local 378 of the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union, Bob Derby, argued that the disgruntled employees had no desire to be part of the Olympics. The staff have expressed their angst at the timing of the decision and reason that the Hertz management will be sensitive to the needs of staff and visitors alike and return with a suitable proposal.
Tuesday saw four separate locations across the city shut down, two in the CBD. This followed the decision by union members by 77 percent to reject managements latest and apparently final offer. The ongoing disruption stems from a continuation of stalling in place since the collective bargaining agreement between the two expired in October. Jon security has been a key in the disagreement.
