The next time a traveler hires a car, they should look very closely as they may notice something a little strange.  As all of the hired cars come with a spare tire, jumper cables, and a first aid kit in the trunk, there is also something else that they get too.  They will notice that when they open the trunk, it is completely covered by advertisements.  The advertisements may remind customers of picking up a race car by mistake or hitting a billboard as they are leaving the Hertz parking lot.  The extra advertising in the trunk is not only place travelers will find them, as they are also reinforced on the ticket folder you receive from the company on the reserved car and even on products that they have dangling from the rear-view mirror.  This is the introduction of a new revenue stream that Hertz has discovered.

The record high prices of fuel have hit the car hire industry pretty hard, and with the price of oil setting new records on a regular basis, a lot of people have opted not to take a holiday.  Even the people who do decide to take a break are using more forms of public transportation.  Hertz has already gotten rid of their high-cost fill-ups.  Customers are now returning their hired cars to Hertz with an empty tank, as they can now expect to pay the market rate to fill the car back up.  This move alone hasn’t, however, been enough in order for Hertz to weather the storm of petrol prices.  Because of this, they are using all of their available resources so that they can sell advertisements, as many airlines are doing the same thing.
