The well known Spanish carrier, Iberia, has now been forced to cancel a number of its flights scheduled for yesterday and today due to a strike action by the airline’s cabin crew. The cabin’s attendants unions, CT and SITCPLA, have called for this strike due to disputes over wages.
Almost 450 flights will be affected by this two day strike by the Iberia cabin crew. This will include domestic, transatlantic and European services. The Madrid to London services fall among the flights that will have to be canceled.
The few Iberia flights that go under the codes IB5000, IB8000, and IB7000, which are operated by Vueling, Air Nostrum, and other airlines using Iberia codes, are not affected by the strike. The flights that will go from the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands will be operating normally as well. This also goes for a number of Iberia’s long haul flights.
Iberia made a statement on their website saying that, because of the strike called on by CTA and SITCPLA cabin attendants unions, Iberia will have to cancel some flights scheduled for October 26th and the 27th. This is due to the fact that there will not be enough people to reach the minimum services requirements established by the Spanish authorities.
Iberia did say, however, that the airline is trying to avoid an unjustified strike and has called on the responsibility of the unions’ organization to cancel it. The strike came just shortly after Iberia announced a new strategy in response to the decline in revenue brought on by weak demand.
