On Thursday, InterContinental Hotels announced that they have signed a deal to construct their first Crowne Plaza in Kiev, the capital and biggest city in the Ukraine. The Crowne Plaza hotel, which is planned to open during the same year that the Ukraine is going to host Euro 2012, is going to be the 3rd InterContinental hotel in Kiev. InterContinental Hotels has already completed deals for developing the InterContinental Kiev, which is planned to open by the end of 2008, and the Holiday Inn Kiev, which is planned to open by the end of next year. ITT-Plaza, which is part of ITT Investment Group in the Ukraine, is the owner and developer of Crowne Plaza Kiev, and the hotel is going to be run by InterContinental Hotels under a management contract for 15 years. The hotel will be located in the commercial area of Kiev and only 7 kilometers away from the historical centre of the city. It will also form a section of a new, major office development of 120,000 square metres.

Robin Wicks, the Chief Operating Officer of Continental Europe for InterContinental Hotels, said that this is an exciting time to develop hotels in Kiev, as there is a major demand that will grow from both leisure and business travelers. Oksana Markarova, the President of ITT, said that this construction is a huge opportunity and investment for Kiev, and the brand of Crowne Plaza is perfect.
