Fury in Manchester after police seized a limousine company chief’s stretch Hummer as part of a new blitz on the region’s roads.
The £100,000 stretch super jeep has been specially adapted to accommodate 18 people but was impounded by local authorities outside Belle Vue stadium in Kirkmanshulme Lane following a disagreement over a driver’s license. Owner and company boss Jason Earl, who has been spending the evening at the Belle Vue dogs, was forced to hire an additional limo from a competing company to deliver his customers home.
Mr Earl insists that police had no right to impound his vehicle and now claims he is entitles to compensation worth £1,500. Earl’s Hummer was impounded for two days in total and also had to pay the release fee on the vehicle which was £190. Fortunately, Mr Earl is now back on the road in his treasured car as Manchester police look into his compensation claim.
40-year-old Earl is the owner of Earl’s limousines, based in Wigan, and insists that he has the required bus-driving license that allows him to operate large vehicles, necessary given his stretch Hummer has more than the sixteen seats that classify it as such. He presented this license to police at the time of the incident but after authorities consulted their database they determined that Earl was unable to operate any vehicle for reward or hire. A police spokesperson also stated that the vehicle was seized for not having insurance.
