A report released yesterday suggests that those travelling to London to celebrate the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton will be paying far more for a hotel room than usual. Pegasus Solutions, a booking technology company, has calculated that, compared to last year, hoteliers will be making a massive 383 per cent more on each booking made for 30 April.

Pegasus added that for the same weekend a year ago costs were up by an average of 134 per cent. Although a massive influx of visitors to the capital is expected, HotelMap.com, a hotel booking site, was claiming earlier in the week that rooms were still available, some even offering discount prices, at hotels in the vicinity of the wedding route.

It appears that more visitors will be taking advantage of the long weekend by increasing the length of their stay in the capital. Pegasus said the average percentage increase in the length of stay was well into the triple digits compared to the same weekend last year.

Mike Kistner, a spokesman for Pegasus Solutions, said London hotels would reap the benefits of people wanting to arrive early for the Royal Wedding party and continue celebrating for longer. He added that international and domestic travellers appeared to be coming early to warm up to the big event and had booked rooms for the days following the wedding.

According to the firm’s analysis, British tourists make up the largest market of those visiting the capital, followed by the Americans, the French and the Germans.
