The United Kingdom has been selected as the priority launch market for the new mobile boarding pass system of Lufthansa outside of Germany.
Lufthansa passengers who are leaving on flights from the London Heathrow Airport has been using the new mobile boarding pass since October 13th. This new facility lets passengers get their boarding pass through text message or email on their smartphone or other mobile phone when they request the service. All of the standard information is included, like the number of the flight and the time of departure. Along with this basic information, these passes also have a 2D barcode that is readable by handheld scanners for use by the staff of the airport to allow the passenger on board the flight.
This system works in combination with the online check-in system of Lufthansa, which allows passengers to have a speedy process of checking in as soon as 23 hours ahead of time via the internet. There is a manual backup system in place if there are signal coverage problems, as well as if the mobile of the passenger runs out of battery power.
The announcement of these plans from Lufthansa also included that the service is set to roll out across other airports in Europe gradually during the upcoming months. They also unveiled that they are already providing this system to 7,000 customers per week.
Marianne Sammann, the General Manager of Lufthansa in the United Kingdom and Ireland, said that the new service is designed to make the traveler’s journey easier, more convenient, and more flexible. Selecting the London Heathrow Airport as one of the main launch markets, other than Germany, for the new system, she continued, demonstrates how much they value their customers in the United Kingdom. She also added that she is positive the mobile boarding pass will become invaluable, especially for the business traveler.
