It now seems that Network Rail has come out and talked about its plans to develop one of the most sustainable office buildings in the country. The biggest news on Network Rail’s new National Center is that the company has finally awarded a key contract for pre-construction services.

It seems that Network Rail’s proposal for a new National Center in Milton Keynes is based on a range of principals that are designed to limit the energy consumption of the building, thus lowering its impact on the environment. As of now, Network Rail plans on housing up to 3,000 employees in this building. The center itself will bring new jobs to the area too.

Just recently Network Rail announced the award of a pre-construction service agreement to BAM Construction to assist in the second stage of the design and build procurements process before the construction actually takes place. The construction is suppose to start next summer, but it is still subject to planning permission.

Network Rail is building the National Center to bring together the company’s national functions to improve teamwork and planning. The move is expected to save the company a lot of money as well. In fact, the company should be saving millions of pounds after the move due to the fact that it will have to rent out less office space at so many different locations.

The building is set to open in 2012 and will be located near Milton Keynes Central railway station on the site of the former National Hockey Stadium. This could be the start of some big things for Network Rail.
