Emirates has had 2 new B777s delivered to them, which are planned to begin services on long-haul flights to South and North America.  This delivery of the planes will act as a softener of the disappointment of Emirates, following Arabian Business revealing on Thursday that the delivery of their second A380 has been postponed.  The carrier, who is the biggest customer of the A380 with an order of 58 aircrafts, didn’t give an explanation for the delay.  However, it has been understood to be due to supply issues for the interior.  Their Boeing 777s bring the passenger fleet of Emirates to 111 planes, adding 620 more seats to the carrier’s capacity.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Emirates, said that their newest 2 Boeing 777s are an addition to their fleet that is very welcome.  It is not too often that an airline has a delivery for 2 wide-bodied planes in one day, both of them together being worth over 500 million dollars.  These planes are their mainstay of ultra long-haul operations, which allows Emirates to expand their international route network, connecting Dubai with flights that are non-stop to nearly anywhere across the globe.

Emirates’ 2 new planes will begin operations on long-haul flights, and they have already been marked for their first journeys to South and North America.  Emirates took delivery of their 777 in 1996.  As of now, the carrier has 63 of these aircrafts in their modern fleet, and they are set to be the biggest operator of the 777 aircraft in the world with the order of 39 more of these, which is worth 10.1 billion dollars.
