The London Heathrow Airport is thinking about new changes to flight paths, which is a move that one official says will disturb millions. In a report from National Air Traffic Services, officials said that the London Heathrow Airport may change their flight paths in order to allow another 60,000 planes to use of the airport every year. These altered paths may be introduced as soon as 2010, affecting the lives of millions who live within 30 miles of the airport.
The changes may also include moving the points of approach for aircrafts landing at the London Heathrow Airport to 8 miles away, as well as changing the turning points of planes, which are used for the aircrafts on their final approach. One of the officials has questioned just how much knowledge the public has of these planned alterations, incriminating that the Department of Transportation is keeping the news secret in the middle of other travel news.
According to John Stewart, the Chairman of ClearSkies, a group that represents people that are living under the existing flight paths of London Heathrow Airport, says the Department for Transport is burying the bad news of the new changes to the flight paths, which is expected to disrupt millions of peoples’ lives. The flight paths are due to the planned expansion for the airport, which includes a 3rd runway and 6th terminal to open by 2020 upon government approval. The ministers are also planning for the authorization of the existing runways at the London Heathrow Airport to be used more intensively.
