2010 will see the addition of five new UK itineraries for Britain’s leading escorted rail holiday company Great Railway Journeys. The weakening pound has seen the UK rise in popularity as a rail destination with GRJ expanding its services which began last year with just a single solitary British route.
The biggest addition to the UK rail sector is the two week ultimate trip which covers Land’s End to John O’Groats. The trip uses a combination of heritage rail lines and mainstream services in the voyage from Britain’s southern tip to Scotland. Leaving for Edinburgh four times over the summer next year the ultimate Britain trip features a dedicated Tour Manager and all train travel as well as mid-range hotel accommodation a full list of sightseeing side trips. Prices for the 14-day adventure begin at £1,595.
Other tours new in 2010 include a 7-day Lake District tour from £270, a six-day voyage around Stratford-upon-Avon for £475, a dedicated Edinburgh Tattoo trip which features and escape to the Scottish highlands and Tattoo performance and from £650 a tour of the northern region’s moors and Hadrian’s wall.
On the European continent a new summer Scandinavian package includes ferry and classic rail travel through Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the Arctic Circle. The three week odyssey starts from £3,475. Also on the continent will be the option of adding on the Venice bound Orient Express trip to GRJ’s iconic European holiday which already features the Louvre and La Scala. Prices for the Venice-Simplon Orient Express trip start at £2,625.
There are also new rail-cruise options, a new walking journey and 12-day Danube voyage. All departures are between March and October.
