New reports have come out that Premier Inn will be opening four new hotels at London’s main airports starting Autumn of 2011. This well known hotel chain will open two hotels at Heathrow and another one at Gatwick. The remaining hotel will be placed at Stansted, and the total number of rooms offered by these hotels will be around 1,500. Premier Inn also noted that they will be spending around £125 million on the development of these hotels.
The Heathrow hotels will be open at Terminal 5 and will have around 400 bedrooms. The Gatwick hotel will be the second property at the airport and will be built at the North Terminal. This hotel will have 630 beds and also direct access right to the airport. The hotel at Stansted will have 300 bedrooms.
The commercial and property director for Premier Inn owner Whitbred, Mark Anderson, said that this move was a signal of confidence that the UK was moving out of the recession. He said that this is a sign that the travel demand would start to pick up again.
Mark Anderson went on to say that, as air travel returns to long term growth, they hope to build their presence at airports. He pointed out that the success of budget airlines has proven that there is a growing demand for low cost travel that will include things like accommodations.
As of right now, Premier Inn already has a number of airport hotels. Some of the areas that have these hotels include Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Liverpool among others. This is sure not to be the last airports that get these hotels.
